It does sit next to a doorway and sometimes opens when you walk by too close. Nice finish and appearance. Had this trash can since Christmas with no problems. Still on the first set of batteries.
If amazon.com keeps selling products like this it will become a trash company as well. What a trash product it is. the tape could no longer hold the heavy weight of 4 D-batteries, and became loose. So I duck-taped it to hold the baerries. I duck-taped the batteries directly into the slot, but after a few hours (maybe a few minutes). But unfortunately I bought it through amazon.com (I had also threw away the box).
I'll just have to throw this trash can into my trash bin to go to the town trash tump. But the batteries were too heavy and they became loose and pushed the cover down into the can. Sometime after that I realized it stopped working, and found that the cover was permanently lost (to the town dump). So the trash can is totally useless. This apparently happened when I emptied the can for the first time. I could no way close the battery cover.
(I ordered this on 1/14/2010). Had I bought this from Costco, I would take it to the store and they would refund me.
No big deal. I think they just packed the wrong one in my package, and I was too lazy to do anything about it. Overall, this trash can works very well, and is stylish enough (though I assume the ones that cost 2-3 times what this one costs look much nicer). My only problem with it is that the ring that sits between the base and the lid doesn't fit the can, and looks asif it's it was made for a smaller model. In any case, it works fine without the ring, but the lid has to sit directly on the trash bag.
Recenly I bought 2 of them for my daughter's kitchen. I have never had any problems with them. Her young son thinks they are magic. I purchased this trash can at least 5 years ago, maybe longer. I originally bought one for my kitchen and then bought another one for my office. She uses one for trash and the other recycling.
I have had absolutely no problems with it. This is a wonderful automated trash can. I would highly recommend it for anyone in need of a trash can.
